Awakening

They were miaowing for breakfast.
I groaned, turned over, went back to sleep.
They waited awhile. A little later, the black one
leapt softly on to the bed. I opened my eyes
to a gentle touch on my arm with his paw
and an earnest, questioning gaze. He even
had his claws retracted. So polite!

  3. Sweet. A little black cat adopted me, but I couldn't keep her. A friend took her at least. But how I would have loved to have had her here to wake me early for breakfast.

  4. Aww what a lovely gentle way to try and wake you up, how can you ignore that gentle tap, tap taping and loving nudge....lol
I have a little yorkie who used to sleep on my queen bed but, his back is very bad and as he leapt off as soon as I pushed back the covers the vet told me he mustn't jump anymore or, he might end up paralised, I got him a canvas kennel bed thing, so he trots into that at night now and I zip him in it but, he's still on the bed! LOLOL
When we love our pets they become part of our family, aren't we just nuts about them! Love it!

  10. Rosemary, we have had wonderful luck over the years with shelter kitties. Recently, the last one in our new-empty nest died peacefully. You reminded me of the joy, the comfort, the sweetness of cats, and you gave me a nice few tears in remembrance of our little Gable. Thanks so much! Amy Barlow Liberatore
Laurie, a delightful poem! The onomatopoeia and the jam and the mess and oh, how she loves her Gram! Amy

  11. I owe an apology to poemblaze, whom I first thought was damning me with faint praise. So many others have commented with pleasure on the sweetness of this piece, that I see I should take it as meant. It can't be bad if these words bring a moment of sweetness to others from what was indeed a sweet moment for me. :)

Thank you poemblaze for being the first to say so.
