Sheltering

Hunched, wet-feathered
on the veranda railings,
two Noisy Miners
don’t even squawk
when I open the door,
don’t even bother to move.
The street is awash, the sky
obliterated. This once
I don’t chase them away.

  1. Still a downpour - even the birds need shelter. (I hope Coco is inside, too.)

  2. I wouldn't know — I sure wasn't out on the street today! There's a flood warning on our river and some areas have been evacuated, but fortunately we're high up and we have food and necessities.
